Ukraine

A little over a week ago Russia invaded Ukraine.

It's still too soon to know how it all will play out, but it is clear that people are dying and that this is a bad thing for pretty much the entire world. There has been a lot of action against Russia from the Western powers, mostly economic sanctions. So far the result here has just been that the price of oil has gone up substantially, but I expect that we will feel other effects if this drags out. (Of course we here in the US are not the ones fearing for our lives, losing our homes, or fleeing our country, so the impacts on us are quite minor in the grand scheme of things.)

I am very frightened that this might be the beginning of a larger war. I was worried about the long-term effects of COVID life on my children, but now I am mostly worried that they may grow up during wartime.
