All that optimism from yesterday has pretty much vanished today. I realize that things take time, but today was a disaster.

We followed the advice of our daughter's teachers and counselors and gave her a 'menu' of possible schoolwork to do today, ranging from academic exercises to things like art with my mom or writing postcards to her cousins. We gave her ten options and told her to pick any four.

Not only did she refuse to do any of it, but she threw enormous tantrums whenever the topic came up.

We're trying really hard to meet her halfway, or even mostly her way. We know she's having a hard time, but it is so hard when she won't cooperate even the smallest amount.

We'll try again tomorrow, and next week we have another meeting with the behavior specialist at school. I'm still hoping we'll figure out something that will work for us all.
